First Time Parents Workshops (Plus a Giveaway!)

Manila Workshops and Medela Moms held morning and afternoon First Time Parents Workshops last May 24, 2014 at the Medela House.   Attendees went home loaded with information and they were given lots of goodies from sponsors.

Back by popular demand, Manila Workshop had a rerun of its "What to Know Before Giving Birth Workshop". The resource speakers Dra. Patricia Malay Kho (an Obstetrician Gynecologist with Subspecialty Training in OB Gyne Infectious Diseases and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) and Ms. Cecile Bayaga (a registered nutritionist-dietitian and a full-time faculty at the College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines-Diliman) tackled about what to expect during OB check-ups, pain management and pregnancy nutrition.  There was also a brief talk about cord blood banking by Stemcord Philippines. This workshop is highly recommended for first times parents who want to be guided towards a healthy pregnancy.

In the afternoon, Manila Workshop conducted "Mom and Baby Fashion and Baby Nutrition Workshop".  Resource speakers were Ms. Martina Gomez-Pangilinan (an entrepreneur who has brought Catalogue63.com and Elin.ph to life) and Dra. Milette P. Romero (a practicing pediatrician who graduated from the UST College of Medicine).

Ms. Martina showed us how we can still be stylish with our plain old clothes by folding them or by wearing the right accessories.  I also agreed with her when she said that we should keep our children looking like children and not to dress them with tight fitting pants, short skirts, short shorts or high heels.  On the otherhand, Dr. Milette introduced "My Plate" which replaced the food pyramid.  My Plate is simpler and easier to remember.  Yaya and I are now using this guide when preparing food for Baby C.  Dra. Milette likewise patiently answered questions from yours truly which had been worrying me for months.  (Thank you Dra. Milette).

Manila Workshops has another First Time Parents Workshop entitled "Making Memories and Party Planning" happening on June 28, 2014, Saturday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm also at the Medela House ( #29 1st Street, New Manila, Quezon City.).  The Making Memories and Party Planning Workshop is a 2-in-1 session where you will learn how to documents milestones and important events in your children’s lives, as well as plan for your children’s baptism and birthday parties.

The speaker is Ms. Michelle Katigbak-Alejandro who has always been passionate about creating. Whether as a writer, an editor, or a party stylist, she enjoys putting things together beautifully. The current Editor-in-Chief for Metro Weddings Magazine and a freelance party stylist, Michelle has collectively had over a decade of experience in events. From baptisms to birthdays to weddings, she has seen and participated in every aspect of special celebrations. In 2011 after having given birth to her first child, Michelle began a small party styling business with her good friend called Styled by: Sami & Bella. Their specialty was intimate events with tons of fun details. In early 2014, she merged her boutique styling business with Cuppy Puppy Bakehouse to become a one-stop shop offering both sweets and styling. An eclectic professional at heart, Michelle is constantly looking for ways to push past her boundaries. While writing and editing remain her first and true love she has been enjoying the styling and crafting arena as well. In 2014 she looks forward to more new experiences and definitely many more creative ventures.
